Anybody recognize those names?
It's the original cast of The Baby-Sitters Club of course! I grew up reading these books - and by that I mean I owned every single book in the series. Every. Single. One. And, if fact, if you happen to see my mom around and ask her what is in the hall closet next to my old room at my parents house, she could probably verify that for me. But hopefully you won't.
Anyway, I saw this article in the NY Times and it's true! Ann M. Martin, originator of The Baby-Sitters Club is in fact, bringing the series back! Now, when I read the books, they were aimed more at kids that were close to the baby-sitters ages. Maybe 11 and up or so. Now, it seems that they will be aiming the new series at girls that are more the age of the children that they sat for. Sat for? Is that right? Well, you know what I'm saying.
If I had had a girl, I can guarantee you that I would rush out and buy every single one of the books that will be coming out. As a parent, you don't have to worry about any questionable content in these books, which is great. I remember for every holiday, birthday, whatever, I'd ask for gift cards to my local bookstore, for, you guessed it, BSC books.
Did you read them? Have a favorite character (ahem, mine was Dawn, because like me, we were both blonde haired, blue eyed California girls)? Perhaps a favorite book (I enjoyed the cruise - it was a special not part of the regular series)? Or do you just think I'm a total dweeb for admitting all this? Hopefully not!

Hi Jenna!
I've read your blog for awhile (I think your family is adorable, by the way) but have never commented...UNTIL NOW!(I'm pretty new to this blogging thing! :) I LOVED the BSC books growing up and had quite a stash. Much to my dismay...my mom gave them away when I was in college! Except I still have the Super Special pack...I agree, the cruise one is great! Anyway, just this year I put BSC books on my Christmas list (they're cheap on Amazon) because I want to build up my collection again for future children or students (I'm a teacher). My family just laughted at me, but I don't care. So I don't think you're crazy at all! :)
I use to love the BSC!! That is so cool they are coming out with a new series! I would def. get them if I had a daughter!
HOW FUNNY!!! Jenna, I used to love the BSC and recently found all my old books. I was going to put them in my classroom, but decided to save them for my 19 month old instead. Mary Ann was my favorite, but I also loved Mallory! Wow, I haven't thougth about it in so long...what a blast from the past!
Oh my word, when I saw the title to this post I instantly knew what you were talking about. I went thru that series in no time flat!!!!!! LOVED it!!! :)
i KNEW as soon as i saw your title what you were referring to! i loved those books growing up, i was even in the babysitter's club club! all of my books are still back home also, such good books!!! i was also a fan of the mandie books, my aunt always bought those for me and my sister.
I've always been a big reader, so I was crazy about a lot of books growing up, but the BSC were some of my favorites. Dawn was my favorite as well! I still have all of mine and I'm so glad because I'm sure Adeline will love them when she's older.
I loved BSC too! LOVE LOVE LOVE! They were so fun growing up! I didn't have all of them, but I read my fair share! My fave was Dawn too! I think because I loved the fact that she was the blonde! I am a blonde too.
I also LOVED the BSC! I read all the books and had some of them that I read over and over! I always read BSC, Sweet Valley High, and Nancy Drew! You have made me want to go read them all again! :)
I LOVED the BSC books. I absolutely owned every single one (Nancy Drew too). I actually wondered if she was still writing, definitely have to look into it for my girlies down the road....
OMG I love the BSC!!! And i loved it when they came out with the movies! It brought everything to life! I liked Stacy! She was my fave! I can't believe that a bunch of grown women are all giddy about this again! It's GREAT!!!!!
I was a huge fan of the BSC! My favorite books were the Super Specials where they went to Disney World and where they went to summer camp.
I liked Mary Anne the best.
I was obsessed with the BSC! I had EVERY SINGLE BOOK, watched the show on HBO - my favorite was definitely Mary Ann because of Logan :). I have two favorite books - the one where Logan and Mary Ann get back together, and the super special at camp!
I loved BSC! I read them all the time! Dawn was my favorite as well! I LOVED the movie when they made it. I have it on VHS! :)
Not a dweeb! I read every single one, also! LOL I can't believe they're coming back!
I loved the books too and collected the entire series. I am pretty sure my mom sold them all in a garage sale and now that I have a girl of my own I wish I still had them. *Sigh*
I think I also read Girl Talk or something? Do you remember those? I know it had a game where the boy called you to ask you out? lol
I loved this series! My fav was Claudia, which is kind of ironic now because I teach kids with learning disabilities like the ones she had! If I ever have a daughter, she will definitely read these books!
Ok, love you blog. I have never commented before but have come out of hiding so scream...I loved, loved, loved these books. I was a total book worm, still am! I also loved Sweet Valley High. I have an almost 11 year old daughter, so she will have to read all of these. I also have a three year old son and six month old son.By the way I am signed in on my daughters blog.Patricia
I'm a longtime lurker, but I'm still kind of new to this blogging thing. I've been a big reader all of my life but I have to say that you just can't get any better than the BSC! I had every single book including the special series. If I recall right, I even had a like a day planner and calender from the Babysitters Club Book Club. I'm so excited that you shared this with us, I love how the good things in life are making a return =)
Oh my word...my jaw dropped when I read the title of your post!! SO AWESOME :) I look at your blog quite often, but I always seem so busy that I rarely comment, but I thoroughly enjoy your blog (I guess I am what they call a "lurker" - but that needs to change)!! Wow, did I love the Baby Sitter's Club books. I was actually telling my husband all about them on a trip home not too long ago. I have a few of my old BSC books on a shelf in our guest room. What a wonderful series it was - I felt like they were my friends, haha! My favorite was Kristy and I even wanted to start my own BSC - did you? I would love to find and buy some of the old books, just to have as a memory. And I too loved when they turned the books into 30 minute episodes and I even "recorded" them on VHS. Thank you SO much for the trip down memory lane! We have a young niece so I may have to get her into these books - take good care!! This was just great...
Not a dweeb at all! lol
I loved BSC and would totally buy them if I had a daughter!!
Thanks for the flashback! :)
I loved the BSC too, I tried to start my own in my neighborhood! It was just me and one other girl, lol. I also dressed up as Claudia for a book report once. My favorite was either the cruise or when they went to summer camp.
I know there's still a box of them at my mom's house and now I have a reason to save them-for my little girl! Thanks for the great idea!
I loved that series! I remember they came out with a series about one of the little sisters and my little sister got hooked on that one. I am going to have to get these for my daughter when she gets a little older!
I loved the BSC books, too! My favorite was Stacey. I loved the book when they all went to visit her in New York. I will definitely be buying these books for my daughter when they come out. Yay!
I love reading your blog...I am slowly trying to catch up on the "journey"!
I loved the Baby Sitter's Club books! I was practically addicted to them.
I LOVED BSC books, they were my absolute favorites!
I had no idea you were from California, where about? I'm in Fresno, CA!
My younger sister and I LOVED those books. My older sister was into Sweet Valley High (loved those too later on). I have 3 girls and I hope at least one of them will read that series.
I definitely remember reading these books but I don't think I read them as many times as I did The Christy Miller series or Sweet Valley High. :)
So glad she's coming back out with these. I was a huge BSC fan and read all of them growing up. I still have my Super Specials back at home (and I think my copies of #1 and #100.) I was a fan of Claudia, just because of her artsy style, but I could relate more to Mallory or Mary Anne. And I completely agree about these being safe for girls to read--I used to work at a school where the librarian often asked me to read through the new books to determine what grade level they're appropriate for. Even the last "Traveling Pants" book was only appropriate for high schoolers because of content, but we had 4th and 5th graders trying to check it out! And other books like The Clique...well, I'd feel a whole lot safer sending them to new BSC books!
I just read what your bday theme was!! Too bad I don't leave in NWA because I would bring you all the stuff I used for K's party!! You will have so much fun with that!! I loved that theme!!
I loved the BSC books too! I liked Mary Ann the best and my favorite book was the one when Kristy's mom got married. I just had a little girl in November and told my mom we would have to get those out for her to read one day.
I loved BSC!!!! I had everyone in the regular series except for one because it was out of print(#93). I put my books away when I entered high school and have now entered college and not sure where they ended up.
My favorite was Kristy, mainly because I was most like her. I also really like Mary Ann. I loved the movie they made and tried to make my own babysitters club.
I still have almost ALL of them and they are sitting on the top shelf of my daughters room. I can't wait until she can read them. I almost hate to admit I have reread some of them in my adult years :-)
I think my favorite was Mary Anne or Dawn. I really liked the Super Specials and the adventures to the Sea.
holy cow! when i saw your blog title i immediately thought babysitters club!!!! i LOVED those books, especially the ones where they went on vacation to disney and such ha!
I read all of the BSC books- some books I read over and over again. My favorite character was Mary Ann. Thanks for sharing the post!
LOVED the BSC! My favourite was Kristy- even though she was bossy!
I loved the Super Specials, especially the one where they got snowed in. And the one when they took all the kids they sat for on a boat trip. I still have all the books upstairs in the study. I even have the books about the We Love Kids club that Dawn joined when she moved back to California.
(by the way, I never knew you came from California! In your videos, you have such a strong Southern accent!)
Since you have a boy you will be in the same boat I am. I have found that The Magic Tree House books to be wonderful for boys. Its about a tree house that takes them places. There are a stack of books and the kids Jack and Annie pick a book at the tree house takes them there and then there is always an adventure.
I was so obsessed with BSC! I can't believe they're coming back! I have a daughter who's 4, but I hope she will love them as much as I did one day!
I loved the BSC and had all the books. I always got some for all holidays and read some of them over and over again.
I read Sweet Valley High and every now and then I read BSC. SVH was my fav tho!
LOVED ME SOME BSC!!! Seriously!! I was all about Stacey. I always felt so bad for her because she was a diabetic and her parents were so over-protective of her- HA!
I totally remember the cruise one!! Remember the one where Claudia thought she was adopted? Oh the memories!!!!!
Oh girl I loved the baby sitter club!! I even had the dolls!!!!! I always want my own babysitters club and I loved the movie!!!
I've been reading your blog for a few weeks and now must comment! ;) LOVED BSC!!! My favorite was Stacey. I remember it was to the point that I was reading one a day!! I remember my favorite book being #7 (I think) with Dawn and what they thought was a haunted house. Oh, this brings back memories. Anyhow, love your blog and I have a little boy (4 months) named Brayton (similar!) and the funny thing is I've always referred to Brayton on my blog as "B" and I noticed you do to!! Love it!
I am a HUGE BSC fan too. I actually asked if BSC books were around at our local bookstore for stocking stuffers for my 8 year old. They told me they were coming out with them in 2010.I even found a movie a couple of years ago that I had never seen (I didn't know they had a movie)and bought it 'for her', (but of course we know who it was really for!! ha!) Mary Ann was my favorite, but Dawn was a close second. I don't know if I had a favorite book. liked them all!!! Great memories!! :)
I loved that series too!! I did not have all of them, but read quite a few. I would say I like Stacy the best. How did they end the series, I know I did not read some of the later ones.
Anyway, thanks for the info on the new series, I may have to look them up for my stepdaughters.
