Can't wait!!!! Anything Rachel has GOT to be good :)
Happy New Year Jenna!
Could it possibly be the knife set????
My son loves his binkie too. My mom told me that what she did with my sister's and I is put most away then cut just the very tip off of a couple. She only gave us binkies with the tips cut. It takes away the suction. We didn't like them that way, so we didn't care to use them anymore. My son is only 5 1/2 months, so we aren't there yet, but when he gets older I will definitely try that.
Well, let me start by explaining that I am pretty laid-back when it comes to the whole "milestone" thing. My daughter has always just weaned herself from things. For example, she is almost 16 months and a few weeks ago she weaned herself totally from the bottle. Right around a year old, she had weaned herself from all day-time bottles.
So, in regards to the binkie--I read that it was fine to wait to start weaning until age 2. I have a friend that is a dental hygenist and her son still takes one at bedtime and he is almost three. So, I really don't worry about it. I am about to limit it to bedtime and naps SOLELY for germ purposes. I shiver when I think about the things that she has dropped it in, rubbed it against, etc. and then put it back in her mouth before I could get to her. Shiver!! For example, the other day she dipped it the dog's water, rubbed it against the bottom of the bowl, and stuck it back in her mouth--all while I was running after her yelling "No, it's yuckyyyyy" I know--I gagged, too. Don't judge me, though, because I tried my hardest to get to her first. Haha. So, anyway, I think it is time for it to stay in the bed. But, I have no plan for taking it away completely any time soon. I did hear of somebody dipping the binkies in vinigar to give them a bad taste. I will probably just wait until she is old enough to understand and we will probably give them to another baby.
Now, onto the blanket. We gave Lilly a blanket once her sleep-sacks were too small. (Around 10 months or so) She doesn't stay under it but she loves to cuddle to it. And, it helps with how she sleeps while we are out of town because we always take her nighttime blanket!
Honestly, I think whatever works for you is what you should do! I don't really worry about what the experts say because none of them agree--I just read what they have to say and figure out which one works best with my style of parenting. (Don't get me wrong--they are a great resource! I just don't stress if something I do varies from their expertise.)
I just stumbled upon your blog. I have 4 boys who all used binkies. My youngest (he's 13 months now) was in NICU and I know they give them to the babies for comfort and to help them. I slowly start taking them away during the day and only let them have them while they're sleeping and eventually they give them up completely. But I do know that I'm lucky and sometimes they don't give up the binkies so easily! Go luck & don't worry your guy is still little and there's nothing wrong w/ a binkie or blankie!!!
A new knife set! I am in desperate need too!!! Love your blog!
I"m having a giveaway, too. Come check it out, Jenna. You will like it! :)
As far as binkies...I'm not much help. It's been awhile. :)
I have a daycare and at about one I start letting them have there paci's only at naptime...works great and helps the parents transition them over at home too...
Happy New Year adn I have no clue what your birthday theme may be? None at all...
We called our binkie the "bubbie" but I forgot why - ha! 3 out of 4 of my kids had one until they were 2 years old. They ALL had and some still have a blankie! (my kids are 16, 12, 10, and 8) Yes, they still love to sleep with their soft blankies. So, my opinin of binkies it, keep them until either your baby refuses it or until they are 2 years old but keep the blankies until they go to college - haha!
