I have to really, I mean really humble myself to show you this picture.
OK, so a lonnnng time ago I got a Peanut Shell sling for B - before he was born. Well, when we finally brought him home he hated it. Of course, he hated everything then because he was on Reglan.
So since he had his surgery I didn't want to put him down - I wanted him with me all day. So I brought out the sling and boy does he love it!
(Oh, and as a bonus, here's a preview of the monkey costume!):
So yes, I look awful there, but it was late and it had been a very long day.
Today we bought this bike attachment for me so that I can take B on bike rides. He refused to look at the camera (shock!!!) but trust me, he liked it!
Now I have a question. Has anyone ever heard of Balboa Slings? What do you know about them? Do you have one? Love it? Hate it? They look like this:
I'm thinking of getting one because I took B to Wal-Mart today in my sling and it just doesn't fit quite right, probably because it isn't adjustable. Yesterday I realized I can do all sorts of things with B in his sling and we both enjoy it (including bowling on the Wii).
This is the pattern I want:

God Lord you are thin girl. U always look beautiful. The Monkey costume makes me laugh. My boys are now 5 and 10 won't let me pick out there costumes anymore :(
Brayden is too cute! I love that monkey costume!
I have been thinking about slings, too, and I am interested in what you find out. I think AK might like to be in one!!! OH- and I think you look just fine in that pic!~ You are naturally pretty!
I LOVE slings. Very handy to have. I never heard of the one you mentioned though. I have a maya wrap (mayawrap.com)and I really like it. I sewed myself a hotsling style pouch, but baby is due in a few days, haven't actually used that one yet. For older babies the adjustable style sling is so much easier. The padding in the sling isn't really all that necessary. Mine has no padding and is extremely comfortable to wear. I wore baby #1 when 8 months pregnant with baby #2 and was as comfortable as an 8 month pregnant person can be. :) So yeah, recommend baby wearing. Slings are great. There are so many out there to choose from. And cute fabrics too! When I originally purchased mine they were not popular and I own a funny looking one. :(
PS... love the monkey costume. I saw one on Craigslist the other day and thought of you. :)
A ring sling is a great choice for adjustability, IME, it lasts way longer than a pouch will (as far as carries and comfort on yours and baby's part.) I find the padding in the rails not neccessary, it really just gets in the way. Unpadded rails are way more adjustable than padded. I like my tails longer, too, more useful for covering baby in wind/sun/rain, and the longer tail means longer wear when baby is older (or when more little ones come along, the older kids can hold on to the tail and walk with you) There are many many brands out there, some way more costly than neccessary. They all do the same basic function ;)
Love my Balboa! My friend LOVED hers, so she bought me one when I was pregnant and I will buy them for all my pregnant friends in the future.
Also, this is a little late and may be moot now, but if the only problem you have with Evenflo carseats is how the straps tighten, I thought I was going to hate that too. The first two or three times I was pretty aggravated. Now that I have it down, I LOVE it! I wouldn't go with a carseat that tightened any other way. Just one more persons opinion on your carseat dilema.
You did! That's why I was something like 6 posts behind when I commented today! I am going to fix it now. I didn't even notice until I went to do a new blog post today and I saw all your post summaries! I have been way out of it!
I don't know where she got it. I'll send her an e-mail and ask her, but she lives in Fort Worth, so it may not help a ton. I'll let you know as soon as I do! I just got caught up on all of your posts. I am so glad B's surgery went well. I would have been a nervous wreck, so I know you have a huge weight lifted now that it's done. And I saw the monkey costume in One Step Ahead and loved it. We actually went with something else, but I think it's way cute and I think it is very big of you to dress your son as a monkey. You are really moving past your monkey issue - or at least supressing it for your boy's sake! That's a sacrificial mom for you!
Go search Mckmamas blog on slings. She uses the one I think like you are wanting to use.
I have the moby wrap sling/carrier and Avery loves it!!!

Lucky you! My daughter HATED every sling, wrap, and carrier we tried. I should have known it since as soon as she was born she would get super angry anytime she was swaddled or put in a sleep sack, etc. She hated any kind of confinement, including jumperoos, excersaucers, and still does. We tried I think 8-9 different things with her as I really wanted to "wear" her often, but finally just resorted to holding her (at least I have some nice arm muscles to show for this! lol!) and it worked just fine. The moby was the best in my opinion though! And many of my friends have used it and loved it as well! good luck!
My sister has the Balboa and loves it! She said it holds her son in well and she can get all kinds of things done while wearing him.
Brayden is such a cutie! Love the monkey ears.
I love those slings.. don't own them, but I want and need one.... I can't wait to read reviews you get or hear your review if you get one.
I have 2 ways to carry my little man and prefer the peanut sling over all the others. I've tried the ring sling, and couldn't get it on correctly to where it would stay and be comfortable. The Peanut shell is WAY easier for me because of the super wide shoulder option. I think it really has to fit well though to work. I can carry my 16 lb baby for hrs in it and not feel like I've done any work where as my back and shoulders were tired after about 30 minutes in the ring sling. We also have a Baby Bjorn style carrier. My husband mostly uses it , but we both like it fine. It will also flip around so we can carry him on our back easily. (The peanut shell does that too, but I haven't tried it.) Do you have any friends that have different styles you could try out before buying? Everyone has their own preferences. Happy hunting!
Love the monkey hat!!!! Too cute!
I live and die by my MAYA sling. It is very similar to the one you posted. It s totally adjustable - I used it from newborn to 4 - yes 4 years old...when they got tired, I would rig it to carry the boys on my back...it is AWESOME...I also use it to keep little bodies in big restaurant high chairs or in shopping carts. It comes with a video and has a million ways of wearing it! Good luck!
I love the sling...and the color you picked out is cute!!! And the monkey ears??? Priceless!!
love the pic of your monkey in the sling!!!
I have a pouch sling, a ring sling, a wrap AND a mei tai and I prefer them all at different times... the pouch sling and ring sling are great for newborns, the ring sling can be worn for a LOT longer IME .
But i have a HUGE love for mei tai's , the two shouldered carry is so much easier on my back, and I can put elijah on my back and he's happy go lucky and out of my way but I'm still carrying him and we have a blast!
check out www.thebabywearer.com for all kinda info on slings and such!
Girl, you look great, and you look wonderful in glasses!!!! He looks like such a trooper and love that costume. Watch out monkeys of the world, because he takes the cake!!! :)
I have one that is very similar and used it for both kids--love it!! Mine was an Over-the-Shoulder-baby-holder and was the adjustable ring style. You will love the comfort and ability to adjust it!!
I LOVE the monkey costume. It's so stinkin' cute! :)
I love baby carriers--we just had our second baby, so it's essential that I'm hands free while carrying her so that I can keep up with our 3-year-old boy. About the only kind I haven't tried is the ring sling, unfortunately, but I have heard great things about them.
I've used a Peanut Shell, a moby-style wrap, Baby Bjorn, and Beco Butterfly (like an Ergo). My favorites are the moby wrap (bought mine at www.loveyduds.com) and the Beco. Right now, I use the Beco mostly because it is the most supportive.
If you have a store that sells slings locally, might be worth it to go in there and try some out with Brayden. Nothing like being able to actually give them a test run!
I LOVE my Moby wrap. It is completely adjustable and has so many different options (forward facing, facing Mom, on your back). You wrap it as tight or loose as you need and it can be used until baby is about 33 lbs.
His Monkey costume is SOOOOOO cute!
