Today's Report on Brayden

Today was a rough day. Brayden's numbers are down and he has a new doctor - they switch every two weeks and our doctor was at the end of her rotation. During the weekends there are also different attendings, and the doctor that is with him right now is the man who started the NICU unit of the Children's Hospital. He has been there for 30 something years and knows a lot about PPHN.

Brayden's jaundice numbers are up to 23 but they say that is the least of their worries, and that it is being caused by all of the medications that he is on. Currently, he is on a sedative, a pain reliever, a paralyzer, a PPHN med, 2 or 3 BP meds and something else....forgive me, I'm super tired and I know I'm missing one med. It is very hard to see all of these things being pumped into him.

I don't have new pictures because he is under two very large jaundice lights and the pictures aren't turning out. His little skin is drying out from the lights and I just want to make it all better and make it all go away but I can't. But God can, and he hears our prayers and I am so thankful for each and every one of you and your prayers on his behalf.

Thank you so much to all of you...those I know, those I have met through Blogland and those who have found our story through all of you who have posted prayer requests on our behalf. We love you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you for taking time to update all of us. God is bigger than all this and He is the Great Physcian. It sounds like Brayden is in the best possible hands with the Head Neonatologist caring for him. I remember pleading with the Neonatologist about how dry and peeling my little one's skin looked. I just wanted to put a little lotion on her skin, but of course that was not allowed. It's so hard as a mother to want to jump in and make it better for your baby, but you aren't allowed to.

Brayden can feel your love, strength, determination and hope. Keep fighting this fight. We're all praying with you.

My prayers are with you and your family. When I read how difficult it is for you to be silent because Brayden knows your voice, it made me think about our heavenly Father. How many times have we prayed and felt that silence wanting to hear His voice? So it made me realize He is still there but His silence is for my good. What a story you will have to tell your son one day. I am glad your faith is strong enough to carry you through this journey. My prayers will continue to be with you. Psalm 121

Hang in there; God has put Brayden in good hands. Your faith will get your through this. I will pray that Brayden's blood gas levels improve and the the pphn gets better. I have never commented before. Please know we are praying in the midwest! Make sure you don't overdue. My oldest who is 14 was born 6 weeks early, and I too had a c-section, I stayed at the hospital all day after I was released and ended up developing a hernia that I then had to have surgery on 6months post-baby. Try to keep your feet up and take care of yourself, I am praying for your healing as well.

I'm sorry you can't touch and hold your sweet babe right now. When my last son was born we were in the same situation. The nurses even taped baby earmuffs on him because the slightest noise would agitate him. But, God CAN and DOES touch and comfort him when you can't.

It may take some time, but I pray that one by one many of the drugs are discontinued...little by little you will be able to touch and hold him...day by day his lungs will become stronger and blood gases improve...minute by minute you will continue to lean on the Lord for strength and wisdom.

I volunteered there before my daughter was born and it is such a wonderful hospital.) I've been so moved by the people who do not know Kelly that have shown up at the hospital or helped them in various ways, and I wish I could do the same for you since you are right here in "my" town. Praying for Brayden & your whole family during this difficult time. I have been thru a similiar situation with my son William. He was born 17months ago on his due date. We never dreamed he would be born sick. He was born with meconium aspiration syndrome which caused severe PPHN. They had to put the breathing tube in in the delivery room, and he was on the oscillator/ventilator for 10 days. I also signed papers for him to receive ECMO & have him transferred to another hospital where this would take place. We were blessed and for weather reasons transport was delayed & his gases improved slightly and we were able to stay. My husband & I got to hold Will for the first time when he was 12days old....it was priceless. It may seem like I'm really rambling on but I just want you to be able to relate....because William is doing awesome now. We went home from the hospital after 20 days. He's never had any respiratory issues since then. He's a precious boy who runs, chatters, and loves to give hugs. I love to share our story because nobody believes me when they see him. You would never know how very sick he was. I hope that we give you a little ray of hope, I know first hand how long the days seem and how slow the progress seems as our babies recover. If you would like to keep in touch, I'ld like that but I realize how stressed and busy you are now. I will be keeping Brayden in my thoughts and prayers. He's a beautiful baby boy! Annette

I do not know your family but I came across your blog from anothers. I first want to say that I will be praying for your little guy. God is the Ultimate Healer and We praise him for Brayden and pray for His protective hands on him. I am a neonatal nurse and we beform ECMO in our unit. We have lots of PPHN infants. They are very sick at first however the outcome for them is usually great! I don't ever want to give you false hope or go against what the doctors are saying, however I have rarely seen a child die from PPHN. It sounds like his pO2 his rising and that is what you want to see. So praise God for that!
